Indoor Air Quality
Indoor air quality has been found to have significant health implications to indoor environments and their occupants. Mold growth is primarily due to water intrusion and/or uncontrolled humidity. Matrix can assist with the following:
- Site surveys.
- Determining type and extent of contamination.
- Provide clear and concise reports of observations and lab results.
- Provide remediation designs by a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
- Conduct clearance sampling after remediation is complete to ensure safe occupancy.
Asbestos Services
Matrix Health and Safety Consultants, LLC staff members are North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina accredited Asbestos Inspectors, Management Planners, Abatement Designers, and Air Monitors.
Surveys
Matrix conducts surveys in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations in order to detect and identify the types and locations of asbestos-containing materials in all types of buildings. Sampling and analysis by accredited laboratories determines the presence of asbestos.
Abatement Designs
Current regulations require the abatement of asbestos-containing materials prior to renovation or demolition activities that may cause their disturbance. Matrix Health and Safety Consultants, LLC provides abatement design services including project specifications, drawings, and project management to ensure successful completion of the project for the building owner.
Management Plans
Matrix can perform Management Plans in accordance with the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Actions (AHERA) regulatory requirements for schools. Our Management Plans typically are performed to reassess and update the existing Management Plans for the school systems and identify changes in materials which may create hazards to occupants. Matrix can also provide initial management plans to private industry as well.
Air Monitoring
Matrix provides Accredited Air Monitors working under the supervision of a Supervising Air Monitor to collect ambient, personal, and final clearance samples. Samples can be analyzed using either Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) or Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). Our in-house laboratory capabilities allow us to provide fast an accurate analysis of airborne asbestos exposures.
Lead-based Paint
Matrix has extensive experience providing lead-based paint services in residential and commercial properties. Staff are North Carolina certified Inspectors, Risk Assessors, and Abatement Designers.
Surveys
Risk Assessments
Matrix has extensive experience in performing lead-based paint surveys for various residential and commercial properties. Matrix utilizes non-destructive XRF spectrum analyzers to conduct surface-by-surface testing to identify the presence of lead-based paint. Confirmation paint chip sampling and analysis can also be performed when necessary or by request. Typically, lead paint surveys are accompanied by a risk assessment.
A lead risk assessment includes identifying exposure hazards through dust-wipe sampling, soil sampling, and occasionally water testing. Analysis of samples is provided by AIHA-accredited laboratories for comparison to current standards established by HUD and the EPA. Identifying lead dust exposure risk is especially important for children under six years of age.
Abatement Designs
Clearance Testing
Clear direction and proper planning are critical steps in conducting abatement projects. Matrix provides lead abatement design services that include preparing project specifications and drawings, as well as project administration and oversight duties. Preparation of Occupant Protection Plans is also typically provided by Matrix in the abatement design process.
The success and safety of a lead abatement project is documented through clearance testing. Matrix provides post-abatement clearance testing through visual inspection, and the collection and analysis of dust-wipe and soil samples. Matrix provides a final report including project data, laboratory analysis results, and documentation of the completion of abatement activities.
